Matthias Verstraete

I am a Belgian photographer living in the Netherlands and working globally. My work spans landscape, nature, and portrait — always in pursuit of the light that shapes a scene and the moment that holds it still.

Photography, for me, is about patience and attention. I wait for the quality of light that transforms the ordinary into the arresting — the long shadow across mountain snow, the last warmth of an afternoon in an old city street, the stillness of heathland before the wind picks up.

Background

I started shooting seriously while travelling for work across Europe and beyond. Over time, the camera became less of a souvenir device and more of a way of seeing — a reason to slow down and look properly at the places I pass through.

My portfolio spans urban environments (Antwerp, New York), alpine landscapes (Bormio, Fiss & Ladis in the Austrian Tyrol), and the quieter countryside close to home in the Netherlands.
